Plays

It would be easy to think that the West End is occupied only by the high profile musicals that are known all over the world. But to think this would do the West End a huge disservice as it discounts the wealth of glorious plays (and other forms of entertainment) that take to the stages of some of the best venues on the planet. Britain has given the world many of its most celebrated playwrights and authors over the centuries and whilst the works of these artists remain on London stages, the tradition continues with new writers putting pens to papers and giving birth to new plays. So travelling to the West End also gives you the opportunity to witness some glorious dramas, comedies, romances and more, with great memories to boot.

One play in London has remained in the capital for over fifty years, making it the longest running show in the world. This is Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap; a murder mystery that continues to draw audiences in and take them on a mysterious journey through the confines of a converted manor house. But that is not all; London is also home to plays like The Woman in Black and countless revivals of the works of Shakespeare, from Romeo and Juliet to Twelfth Night, plus high profile shows featuring famous Hollywood actors – from Sir Ian McKellen in Waiting for Godot to Jeff Goldblum in The Prisoner of Second Avenue. If you are looking for some great plays, look no further than London theatre.

So there is more to London than high profile musicals (as wonderful as they are) and a quick trip to the capital will provide you with some glorious works of fiction unfolding in front of your very eyes.
